We have all done it - bought paint/wallpaper for decorating and half way through the project you realise you have made a mistake !
Bit bright are they not ! ( if placed in the back garden they would probably attract helicopter landings !)
Think the problem is the cloth that I use on my table is a lot darker and this makes them stand out more .
The actual hills work very well, the contour levels can be swapped about or used as separate hills on their own. I will be investigating the chances of a darker paint job this weekend .
Your hills are fine, it's the figure bases which are too dark!!

Am just about to make several square feet of such hills. I am choosing their paint colour very carefully!
You may be right about the figure bases - will try some of my 40mm figures with them , they have lighter coloured bases .
DeleteYour ground cloth looks almost "olive drab" in the photos . . . so, yes, the hills should be a more subdued color.
ReplyDeleteThe hill shapes however look very good. I like them a lot.
I will also admit that I try very hard to get my figure bases as close in color to my ground cloth color as possible . . . so that is worth considering since (to my eyes at least) it makes the figures look better.

I must admit the cloth does come out a lot darker than it realy is ( maybe somthing to do with the flash on the camera ?) , am off to the DIY store again on Saturday.
DeleteNow that is what I call a set of proper hills and with the figures and trees they look great.
ReplyDeleteAn option is to get rid of the cloth and get some MDF 2 ft square boards and paint them the same shade of green.
Cheers
Have thought of painting the base board a similar colour , but at the moment it is a dark blue - for naval gaming
DeleteHills look great ,I like the colour.
ReplyDeleteBecause I paint my bases with Humbrol number 80 I went to B&Q with a pot lid and got a tin mixed up. Still using it, and not just fore wargaming purposes! I do like the 'mix'n'match' shapes of the hills. I need to do some myself soon. Thanks for the poke in the ribs.
ReplyDeleteNice hills!
ReplyDeleteI've been dithering over finishing a set myself using some left over nominal 1" pine. I have great trouble with grass coloured scenery, the stuff out of the window always seems so bright and so green and the paint is always too dark or too light or the wrong hue.
Nice hills, the w/g table cloth is darker so they look brighter - new cloth ??
ReplyDeleteI covered my hill pieces with the same fabric as my gaming table and got a close'ish match with the figure bases.
